Discussion:
Will like to release xf86-video-mga Version 1.7 soon

Hi,

I am not personally invested in maintaining xf86-video-mga DDX code at this point, but the other day, I built an AMD Athlon 64 based computer with Matrox G400 MAX AGP graphics card, and noticed that the last few commit ago commit broke the screen.
Fortunately, the person who committed the code was able to fix the code very quickly, and I committed the code into the upstream repository.
The code is back to working okay, again.
Anyway, I decided to fix a few annoying compilation warnings, and I just posted the patches to this mailing list.
If there are no objections, I will like to increment the version of xf86-video-mga DDX to Version 1.7 (1.7.0) early next week.
If there are people out there who care about xf86-video-mga DDX, please test the code to see if it is working before I increment the version.
If there are serious issues outstanding, I can postpone the new release.

Regards,

Kevin Brace

As long as you're cleaning up, should README_HALLIB and the corresponding
entries in src/binding.h be deleted now? Seemes like they were missed when
MGA HAL support was removed in commit 94bbeb132c7eda912.

No objections from me.

Hi Alan,

Go ahead and you can get rid of binding.h and related HAL related code.

Hi

I don't have an AGP motherboard anymore to test my MGA cards, but I
had the fabs() diff I just sent to xorg-devel@ in my tree for some
time. You may want to consider it for the 1.7.0 release.

Hi Matthieu,

I do have several models of Millennium 4 MB PCI, one G200 8 MB AGP, one or two G400 AGP (16 MB to 32 MB) , one G400 MAX AGP, and several G450 and G550 (mostly AGP, but at least one PCI).
For G200, I need a mainboard with AGP 3.3V signaling support in order to use it, and I tried to set up a dual boot system with Windows this morning, but due to hard drive issues (i.e., gradual degradation of the hard drive sectors even not in use), I am currently prevented from resizing the Windows partition.
I will have to go find another functioning Windows box for me to run chkdsk command over this hard drive.

I have a G550 in a box with openSUSE Tumblweed and Debian 9, and several G400s that I could
reinstall in boxes they were removed from due to lack of working MGA drivers, which in addition
to Debian and Tumbleweed have Mageia 6 and/or Fedora 28 and/or Fedora 29. I can only test
packages built by others. I may have a working PCI G200 as well.

Since the version numbers don't really have any meaning, would you
mind just picking xf86-video-mga-2.0.0? I ask because there are some
11 year old 1.9.99 and 1.9.100 release tags in the -mga repo that
confuse packaging software like Repology [1] and Euscan [2]. So if we
just picked 2.0.0 we'd no longer confuse those into thinking distros
are shipping old stuff.

Hi Matt,

Thank you for the suggestion.
I am glad I asked the community before incrementing the version number.
Following the xorg development guideline, I just incremented xf86-video-mga's version to 1.6.900.
Based on your reasonable request, I will increment it to 2.0.0 hopefully by early next week.
Version 1.6.900 is a release candidate version prior to 2.0.0.
Anyone interested in the code, please test the code if you have the equipment.
